N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone NMP

Cas No.: 872-50-4
Other name: N-Methyl pyrrolidone
Properties & Applications & PackagesInquiry
NMP is a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid with a slight ammonia odor. It is miscible with water in any proportion. It is soluble in ether, acetone and various organic solvents such as esters, halogenated hydrocarbons, and aromatic hydrocarbons. It is completely mixed with almost all solvents. Boiling point 204℃, flash point 91℃, strong hygroscopicity, stable chemical properties, non-corrosive to carbon steel and aluminum, slightly corrosive to copper. It has the advantages of low viscosity, good chemical and thermal stability, high polarity, low volatility, and unlimited miscibility with water and many organic solvents.

N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) is a polar aprotic solvent. It has low toxicity, high boiling point and excellent solubility. Advantages of strong selectivity and good stability. It is widely used in the extraction of aromatic hydrocarbons, purification of acetylene, olefins, and dienes, solvents for polyvinylidene fluoride, electrode auxiliary materials for lithium-ion batteries, syngas desulfurization, lubricant oil refining, lubricant antifreeze, olefin extraction agents, and difficult-to-use solvents. Solvents used in the polymerization of engineering plastics, agricultural herbicides, insulation materials, integrated circuit production, cleaning of precision instruments and circuit boards in the semiconductor industry, PVC exhaust gas recovery, cleaning agents, dye additives, dispersants, etc. It is also used as a solvent for polymers and a medium for polymerization reactions, such as engineering plastics and aramid fibers. It can also be used in pesticides, medicines and detergents.

The main uses of different grades of N-methylpyrrolidone are listed below:
1. Industrial grade: lubricating oil refining, lubricating oil antifreeze, syngas desulfurization, electronic insulation materials, agricultural herbicides, pesticide additives, PVC exhaust gas recovery, additives and dispersants for the production of high-end coatings, inks, pigments, etc. For example, it is used to extract aromatic hydrocarbons in lubricating oil to achieve the purpose of refining lubricating oil; because NMP has a large solubility in resin, as a solvent for resin processing, it can be specifically used to manufacture coatings, floor paints, varnishes, composite coating films, and integrated circuit enameled wires. Insulating materials, fiber fabrics, adhesives and other products;
2. Normal grade: Extraction and recovery of basic organic raw materials, such as acetylene concentration and extraction of butadiene, isoprene, aromatics, etc. It can be used as a solvent to recover acetylene from natural gas or light naphtha thermal cracking gas, and the purity of recovered acetylene can reach 99.7%; it can be used as an extraction agent to separate and recover high-purity butadiene from cracked C4 hydrocarbons, with a recovery rate of 97 %, the purity of recovered butadiene is 99.7%. It is used as an extraction agent to recover high-purity isoprene from cracked C5 hydrocarbons. The recovery purity of isoprene reaches 99%; when used as an extraction agent for aromatic hydrocarbons, it has high solubility in aromatic hydrocarbons. With low vapor pressure, the extraction agent loss rate is low and the aromatic hydrocarbon recovery rate is high during the process.
3. Reagent grade: deoiling, degreasing, dewaxing, polishing, rust prevention, paint removal, etc. in industries such as integrated circuits and hard disks that require strict control of metal ions and particles, such as photoresist removal fluid, IC semiconductor industry Cleaning of precision instruments, LCD liquid crystal materials, PCB printed circuit boards, and hard drives; as well as solvents produced in the pharmaceutical industry such as artificial kidney functional membrane liquid and seawater desalination membrane liquid.
