Cyclohexylamine (also written cyclohexanamine, aminocyclohexane, or 1-aminocyclohexane) — CAS 108-91-8 — is a clear to pale-yellow liquid with a characteristic amine odor. It is miscible with water and many organic solvents and is widely used as a corrosion inhibitor, rubber vulcanization accelerator intermediate, solvent amine and chemical intermediate in multiple industries.
Physical Properties: Cyclohexylamine is a colorless or pale yellow liquid with an ammonia-like smell. It has a relative molecular mass of 99.18, a relative density of 0.8191, a melting point of -17.7°C, and a boiling point of 134.5°C.
Solubility: Cyclohexylamine is soluble in water and miscible with common organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, heptane, benzene, etc.
Volatility: Cyclohexylamine can evaporate with steam and can absorb carbon dioxide from the air to form white crystalline carbonates.
Acid-Base Properties: Its aqueous solution is alkaline, with a pH of 10.5 for a 0.01% aqueous solution.
Toxicity and Irritation: Cyclohexylamine is irritating to the eyes and respiratory system, and skin contact can cause burns.
