Product Overview

Cocamidopropyl Betaine (commonly abbreviated CAPB or CAB) is an amphoteric surfactant derived from coconut fatty acids and dimethylaminopropylamine. It appears as a colorless to pale-yellow viscous liquid (typical commercial grade: CAB-30, active matter 30±2%) and is valued for mildness, rich fine foam, viscosity-building when combined with anionic surfactants, and good skin compatibility. CAPB is fully compatible with anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants and is used extensively in personal care and household formulations.

Functional Benefits & Formulation Advantages

Mildness: reduces irritation from stronger anionic sulfates and improves skin feel — ideal for capb for hair and capb for skin products.
Foam boosting & stabilization: creates rich, fine foam and improves foam stability in shampoos, hand washes and dish liquids.
Thickening & viscosity control: significant thickening when formulated with anionic surfactants.
Broad compatibility: acts as a cloudy-point inhibitor and is compatible with most surfactant classes.
Conditioning & antistatic: provides conditioning and antistatic effects in personal care formulations.

Cocamidopropyl Betaine (CAB) is perfectly compatible with anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants, it can still be used as cloudy point inhibitor.
CAB can produce rich and fine foams. Fonnulated with adequate proportion of anionic surfactant, it has significant thickening effect.
CAB has excellent to tolerance to skin, effectively reduce the irritation caused by fatty alcohol sulfate or fatty alcohol ether sulfate in the products.
CAB has antibiotic function, being a good additive in personal sanitary products. CAB has excellent antistatic function, being an ideal conditioning agent.

Typical Applications

Personal care: shampoos, baby shampoos, body washes, foaming cleansers, bubble baths, liquid soaps, facial cleansers.
Oral care & eye-care: formulations where mildness needed (e.g., certain toothpaste, contact lens solutions) — follow regulatory guidance.
Household & industrial cleaners: hand dishwashing liquids, laundry liquids, hard-surface cleaners and eco-friendly detergents.
Specialty uses: foam boosters in disinfectants, wetting agents, pigment dispersants and textile auxiliaries.

Cocamidopropyl betaine is widely used as a surfactant. The usage of cocamidopropyl betaine in personal-care products has grown in recent years due to its relative mildness compared with other surface active compounds. Cocamidopropyl betaine is widely used in various cosmetics like shampoos, bath products, contact lens solutions, toothpaste detergents, makeup removers, shower gels, bath foam, liquid soaps, skin care products, hand wash detergents. Uses in household cleaning products, the scope of HERA, include laundry detergents, hand dishwashing liquids, and hard surface cleaners.
