Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT) is a phenolic antioxidant used to protect materials from oxidation during storage, processing and use. It is commonly selected in food, packaging, cosmetics, soaps, rubber, lubricants and polymer systems because of its strong oxidative stability and broad compatibility.
Antioxidant BHT is a white crystalline solid, melting point 69-70, boiling point 257-265, flash point 126.7, which is soluble in benzene, toluene, alcohol, acetone, carbon terachloride, ethyl acetate and gasoline, insoluble in water and dilute aqueous soda.
