Caprolactam, CPL

White flakes, soluble in water, chlorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, cyclohexene, benzene, methanol, ethanol, and ether.

Most of caprolactam is used to produce polycaprolactam, about 90% of which is used to produce synthetic fibers and artificial leather, and 10% is used in plastics to manufacture gears, bearings, pipes, medical equipment, electrical and insulating materials, etc. It is also used in coatings, plastic agents and to a small extent in the synthesis of lysine.
Monomer for manufacture of polycaprolactam (Nylon 6) used in carpets, textiles, clothing, and tires.
