2-Pentanone (IUPAC: pentan-2-one) — commonly called methyl propyl ketone or MPK — is a colorless, medium-boiling ketone solvent prized for balanced evaporation and strong solvency versus many coatings resins and industrial formulations. It is used as a co-solvent, cleaning solvent and process intermediate where moderate evaporation and good resin solvency are required.

2-pentanone is mainly used as a solvent and flavoring agent. As a solvent, it is widely used in industries such as paint, ink, rubber, etc.
Due to its moderate boiling point and volatilization rate, it can provide good leveling and drying properties in coatings.
In addition, 2-pentanone can also be used as a synthetic intermediate for the production of various chemical products, such as phenolic ketone resins, pesticides, pharmaceutical intermediates, etc.
It can also be used in spice production, as an ingredient of essence, and in food, cosmetics and other industries.
