Product Overview

Phosphoric Acid (also orthophosphoric acid, H₃PO₄) is a clear, non-volatile inorganic acid widely used across industry. Available as concentrated 85% phosphoric acid (commonly referred to as phosphoric acid 85 or o-phosphoric acid) and as lower-strength aqueous solutions for cleaning, formulation and agricultural dosing. Our grades cover industrial, food-grade (where permitted) and custom diluted solutions.

Typical Grades & Packings

Concentrated: ~85% technical (used as industrial feedstock).
Intermediate / dilute solutions: 30–80% solutions for cleaning, fertigation and water-treatment dosing.
Food / pharma grade: USP / food additive grade (use as phosphoric acid food additive where regulation allows).
Packing: steel drums, IBCs and bulk tanker shipments for large orders. COA, MSDS and specification sheets supplied with shipments.

Key Applications

Water treatment & boilers: pH control, corrosion control and scale inhibition in industrial waters.
Rust removal & surface treatment: acid cleaning and metal prep (e.g., phosphoric acid for rust removal).
Agriculture & fertigation: phosphorus source in fertigation and foliar feeds (use recommended agronomic rates).
Industrial & manufacturing: manufacture of phosphate salts, detergents, flame retardants and metal finishing.
Food & beverage: acidity regulator and chelator (E338) in soft drinks and some food processes — use only approved food-grade material and follow local regulations.

1. Agriculture: Approximately 80% of phosphoric acid produced is used in fertilizer production, providing phosphorus, a vital nutrient for plants.
2. Food and Beverage Industry: It is used as an acidulant to add a tangy or sour taste to foods and beverages, such as soft drinks, jams, jellies, and processed cheeses.
3. Industrial Applications: Phosphoric acid is used in the manufacture of detergents, metal treatment, and water treatment. It is also used for rust removal and as a surface treatment to improve paint adhesion.
4. Pharmaceutical Industry: It serves as an intermediate in the production of certain medications and is involved in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
5. Environmental Applications: Due to its acidity, phosphoric acid is used in wastewater treatment to adjust pH levels and remove contaminants.
6. Textile Industry: It acts as a mordant to enhance dye affixation and as a silk clustering agent.
7. Industrial Cleaning Agents: Phosphoric acid is used in cleaning agents due to its high chemical reactivity and ability to dissolve hard water deposits, rusts, and scales.
8. Coatings and Flame Retardants: It is used in the coating industry for its anti-corrosive, radiation, and antibacterial properties, and as a raw material in the preparation of phosphorus-based flame retardants.
9. Rubber and Adhesive Production: Phosphoric acid is utilized as a coagulant in rubber manufacturing and as an active component in inorganic adhesive formulations.
10. Fuel Cells: It is used in phosphoric acid fuel cells, which are a class of advanced energy systems.
11. Cosmetics and Skincare: Phosphoric acid is used to regulate the pH of cosmetic products to stabilize them or adjust them to the skin’s pH.
12. Printing and Leather Processing: In the printing industry, it is used in cleaning solutions to remove offset stains. In leather processing, it acts as a dispersing agent to enhance texture and finish.

Performance & Buyer Benefits

Stable, consistent concentration for predictable dosing in water treatment and fertigation programs.
Effective rust and scale removal compared with many organic acids; compatible with many process chemistries when correctly neutralized.
Multiple grades available (industrial, food, reagent) and flexible packaging for trials or bulk purchasing.

Safety, Handling & Storage

Phosphoric acid is corrosive — concentrated grades can cause severe burns. Use chemical-resistant PPE (gloves, goggles, acid apron), local exhaust for vapor / mist, and store in corrosion-resistant containers away from alkalis and strong oxidizers. For spills, neutralize with suitable alkaline absorbent and follow MSDS guidance.
