Product Overview

Butyl Acetate (commonly n-butyl acetate, also written as butyl ester acetic acid, butyl ethanoate, or acetic acid n-butyl ester) is a colorless, low-water-solubility liquid with an agreeable fruity odor and good solvency for many resin systems. It balances fast evaporation and solvency power, making it a preferred solvent/coalescent in coatings, paints, inks, adhesives and cleaning formulations. Typical commercial grades offer ≥99.0% purity.

Key Applications

Coatings & paints: coalescent/co-solvent for alkyds, acrylics and nitrocellulose paints — butyl acetate uses in paint (improves flow, leveling and film formation).
Printing inks & screen-printing: solvent for resins and inks to control drying and gloss.
Adhesives & sealants: solvent for PVAc, acrylic and other pressure-sensitive adhesives.
Cleaning & degreasing: precision cleaning agents and formulation solvent.
Chemical intermediate & flavor/fragrance syntheses (industry grades).

In the chemical industry, butyl acetate is an important solvent and intermediate with good solubility and volatility, commonly used in coatings, adhesives, and cleaning agents. It can also be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other organic compounds for the preparation of dyes, essence and pharmaceutical raw materials.
Coatings industry: Butyl acetate is often used as a solvent and diluent in the coatings industry, with fast volatility and good solubility, which helps to adjust the viscosity and flowability of coatings. It can also be used as a plasticizer in coatings to improve the flexibility and durability of the coating.
Artificial leather and plastic processing: Butyl acetate is used as a solvent in the processing of artificial leather, fabrics, and plastics.

Packaging & Commercial Supply

Packing: 180 kg steel drums; FCL capacities approx. 14.4 MT/20′GP and 24.48 MT/40′GP.
Grades: superior / first-grade / qualified (spec-dependent).
MOQ & lead time: flexible; samples available (customer pays courier).
Documents: COA, MSDS and pre-shipment inspection on request.

Safety & Handling

Butyl acetate is flammable and its vapors can form explosive mixtures. Use in well-ventilated areas, keep away from ignition sources, and store at 5–30 °C in cool, ventilated warehouses. Avoid breathing vapor and prolonged skin contact; use appropriate PPE. Refer to the product MSDS for fire-fighting, spill response and toxicology details.
